Deutsche Id Cards
The German personality card was dispatched in November 2010 following four years of readiness, with specific consideration paid to the conditions for progress and take-up.
In excess of 53 million new-age electronic personality cards and 8 million electronic home licenses were available for use in January 2018.
As per the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Construction, and Home site, each of the 61 million German residents (more than 16 years of age) will have the German National Identity card by 2020.

As of September 2021, the national ID will also be available on mobile phones.
In a decade:
- A new generation of highly secure ID documents has been implemented nationwide,
- The national digital identity infrastructure has been built,
- Its legal framework has been clearly defined.
Germany is one of the 60+ countries issuing electronic national ID cards.
As presented at CEBIT 2016 by Thomas de Maizière, former Minister of the Interior of Germany, the national eID brings convenience and security to German citizens in the digital transformation the country is undertaking.

The format and technical features for electronic identification are the same as in the German ID card.
The new card is valid for ten years and costs 37 euros.
